Skip sizes and pricing
4-yard mini: £180–£280 (small kitchen/bathroom strip-out). 6-yard builder: £220–£380 (typical refurb room). 8-yard builder: £280–£550 (most popular for renovations). 12-yard maxi: £400–£700 (rare on London streets due to access). Roll-on/roll-off 20–40 yard for major demo: £650–£1,400, often only viable on private driveways.
Permit costs
Skip on public highway needs a council permit: £30–£80 in outer boroughs, £60–£150 in central London (Westminster, Camden, K&C). Some councils require pre-application; Camden and Islington run online portals. No permit needed on private land.
Waste hierarchy
Skips work for inert, mixed and timber waste. Excluded: asbestos (£600–£2,400 specialist removal), plasterboard (segregated £45/m³), fridges/freezers (WEEE), paint and chemicals. Segregating timber, metal and bricks can reduce skip volume by 30%.
